If Ghana wants to become a bigger investment destination, a stronger regional hub and a smarter talent economy, it needs an institution built for mobility - not just checkpoints. More than 180,000 young people wanted to join the Ghana Immigration Service. Only about 1,000 could be taken (Citi Newsroom, 2026). Those two numbers say more about modern Ghana than many official speeches. They tell us that public-sector security jobs still look like one of the few credible paths to stable employment for thousands of young people. They also tell us that the state is running up against its own institutional limits.
