Amber Lee Hughes – who has been convicted of raping and murdering her ex’s four-year-old daughter, Nada-Jane Challita – was scarred by a traumatic childhood, during which her mother battled substance abuse and tried to take her own life on several occasions, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has heard.
